If you Don’t Mind it Don’t Matter

I have been listening to MP3s of Tommy Angelo’s “The Eightfold Path to Poker Enlightenment”. So far, they have posted 4 of the 8 episodes to date. It is really the most fascinating thing I’ve listened too.

The co-host is a little goofy, but I suspect this was part of the plan. I have been able to sift my way through the show’s odd areas to get a lot out of the podcast.

I compare the theories of the podcast to something that I learned from a hypnotherapist friend. My friend told me that I needed to experience the negative things, not shun or hide from them. Once I had experienced the negativity, the pain educed would reveal itself and every ensuing time negativity would be less painful, eventually disappearing entirely and allow me to move on with my life.

Tommy talks about living in the now, not thinking about the past or the future.

Both of these strategies help reduce the emotion derived from a negative situation. This helps us see things as they are and not how we feel them to be.

The short version: Keep your head in the game, whether it be in poker or life.
